PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana is a government scheme that aims to provide free electricity to households in India. The scheme was launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on February 15, 2024. Under the scheme, households will be provided with a subsidy to install solar panels on their roofs. The subsidy will cover up to 40% of the cost of the solar panels. The scheme is expected to benefit 1 crore households across India. It is estimated that the scheme will save the government Rs. 75,000 crore per year in electricity costs.

1. The household must be an Indian citizen.
2. The household must own a house with a roof that is suitable for installing solar panels.
3. The household must have a valid electricity connection. 4. The household must not have availed any other subsidy for solar panels

2. Submit the online application form.
Step-1 Visit the official website. Step-2 : Provide the following details for registration. - Select your State - Select your Electricity Distribution Company - Enter your Electricity Consumer Number - Enter Mobile Number - Enter Email - Please follow as per the direction from the portal.
Step-1 Login with Consumer Number & Mobile Number. Step-2 : Apply for the Rooftop Solar as per the form. Step-3 : Fill out the online application form.

Rooftop solar PV systems can be installed on any type of roof having sufficient load bearing capacity.

The RTS under any framework like net or gross metering can be installed by the electricity consumer. So, if applicant have electricity connection in his/her name and he/she pay regularly the electricity bill in his/her own name and also have the permission of use the roof for solar rooftop installation from the owner, he/she can install the RTS.
The system is easy to be dismantled and reassembled elsewhere. So, it can be shifted to new residence.
